Description | Spexin is a new peptide hormone, which is derived from the hormone proNPQ and is very conservative in mammals. After the Q49 residue of the prohormone, the C-terminal amidation processing signal motif (GRR) was used to post-translationally amidate Spexin (36-49). Spexin reduced the absorption of long-chain fatty acids into fat cells and led to weight loss in rodents. Recently, it has been suggested that this peptide may play a role in lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes. |
