Description | This 14-mer prosaptide sequence is derived from the active neurotrophic region of the amino terminal part of the saposin C domain. Synthetic peptides derived from this region have biological activity and are called "propeptides". Prostaglandins and prosaptides are active on a variety of neuronal cells, stimulate the synthesis of sulfatides in Schwann cells and oligodendrocytes and increase the concentration of sulfatides. This indicates that prosaposin and prosaptides are nutritional factors for the formation of myelin. |
