Description | The peptide is a 1 to 20 amino acid fragment of the photoreceptor retinol-binding protein (IRBP). IRBP is a 140 kDa glycolipoprotein located in the photoreceptor matrix between the neural retina and the retinal pigment epithelium. Human IRBP peptide 1-20 contains the main epitope of the H-2b haplotype. Immunization with IRBP (1-20) can induce experimental autoimmune uveoretinitis (EAU) disease mediated by T cells. The disease pathology induced by adoptive transfer of the peptide or the peptide-specific cells is similar to the disease induced by the entire IRBP protein. |
